On Thursday February 20th, the Maps, Apps, and Drones Tour stopped at Avalon Middle School for their annual STEAM Family Night. Over 200 students and parents showed up to the event! Multiple visiting organizations were represented including Microsoft. We had a great time and the event was an amazing success!

Students visited various stations related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

The Maps, Apps, and Drones Tour team members introduced students to the basics of drone flight with the Parrot Mini Drones, explaining their applications in mapping technology. Students also had the opportunity to learn about the basics of coding and navigation with the Sphero Robot.

The students at Avalon Middle School were eager to learn more about GIS. Many students asked questions and wanted to know how Citizen Science GIS team members are using drone mapping in their areas of study.

Finally, students and parents learned about our newest campaign #mappingkindness. In an effort to show that the world is full of kindness, we encourage everyone to contribute their acts to our world map. At the STEAM Night, students mapped their acts of kindness and celebrated random acts of kindness week.
