Halley Spencer

Halley Spencer is pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Sociology. Halley’s research focuses on social inequalities, the effects of mass media, CRT, GIS, and public sociology. Alongside her education, she co-hosts a public sociology and politics podcast, Free the Mind, Free the People, which discusses the liberatory nature of knowledge. In her free time, she teaches improv comedy at UCF’s Improv Academy. 


Halley joined the team in 2021 as a Graduate Research Assistant and has since obtained her Part 107 Drone Pilots license and coordinated research for the NSF REU in Hopkins Village, Belize. The goals of Citizen Science GIS & GeoBus align with Halley’s core values. She believes that science has the responsibility to give back to the people. The science she cares about has a foundation of social betterment.
