It's simple...enjoy the journey! Belize 5.0 Study Abroad Begins Tomorrow!

“I made up my mind not to care so much about the destination, and simply enjoy the journey.”― David Archuleta, Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song and the Power of PerseveranceFive years ago it began.  Tomorrow it begins again at a new institution.  Participatory GIS in Belize 5.0.  I again have the privilege of leading new students into a (hopefully) memorable, positive, and eventful research experience where each of them will be challenged in every way.  This time there are 10 students and me for 12 days.  I’m challenging them to:

  • Work collaboratively on shared GIS research projects all while maneuvering the complexities of ArcGIS products
  • Learn more about their own positionalities and identities as scholars
  • Learn about the power of collaborative research
  • Push themselves farther than they realized was possible
  • Have fun (yes, research can be fun)
  • Cross the line (whatever that means to each of them)

IMG_0833I can’t wait to share the journey through Belize with each of them, and with all of you from this blog site and our social media page.  Stay tuned throughout the next 12 days as we enjoy the learning and research journey as individuals and as a collective group.  Each night (assuming the wifi works) a new group of students will share reflections of our trip.Excited to begin again,Tim
