Over 360 Applications in Year 1!!! Incredibly High Demand for Community GIS and Citizen Science Research Experiences…
We would like to take this opportunity to thank an incredibly talented pool of students who took the time submitting their applications to the 2016 University of Central Florida Community GIS and Citizen Science Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program funded by the National Science Foundation. We received over 360 outstanding applications from around the country. We are humbled by the overwhelming response, and look forward to leading this program for the next few years. The entire applicant pool was diverse in interests and experiences, and all should be commended on their commitment to community-engaged scholarship. We wish we could fund more students, but these are incredibly difficult decisions given the very large and talented pool of applicants, and the diverse methodological training needs of our collaborative research team.
We encourage all to apply again to our program next year and to other REU programs around the country. The 2017 Summer Application will open sometime in January 2017. The most up to date information about our program will be on our website at: http://www.citizensciencegis.org/ucf-reu-site/ or on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/citizensciencegis. We encourage everyone to like and follow both to stay up to date on our program.
Also, we encourage applicants to consider UCF Sociology for graduate studies, as we offer many graduate student research opportunities in community geography/GIS and social inequalities. More information about our graduate program can be found at: https://sociology.cos.ucf.edu/
