Maps, Apps and Drones Tour Visits Cornerstone Charter Academy

We had an unbelievable event on February 6th at Cornerstone Charter Academy! Over 300 students from 3rd through 5th grade experienced multiple stations, where they began their journey to becoming extraordinary citizen scientists.

The level of energy in the school gym felt electric. Multiple teachers and administration also expressed their excitement for the event, as well as the upcoming GeoBus.

Students designed their own creative maps with a scale, compass rose, legend and title. They also applied these key map elements during interactive activities on the National Geographic Giant Map, where they learned to locate geographic locations by using coordinate points, how to identify features on maps by using a legend and gained an understanding of measuring distance by using the map scale. Students also tested their piloting abilities when they flew and carefully maneuvered mini drones through an obstacle course.
