Dear University of Central Florida Community GIS and Citizen Science REU Applicants:
Thank you again for your application to our National Science Foundation REU Site. We are humbled by the overwhelming response to our summer research program. Hundreds of students like you around the U.S. are passionate about community-based scholarship in international settings. We are in the process of reviewing these applications to find our 8 international community scholars for the summer of 2016, and I wanted to quickly let you know our review plan and timeline.
As applications arrived over the past few weeks, we began a preliminary review of applicants for compliance. Now that the priority deadline has passed, we have begun a final, more comprehensive review of all applicants that meet our application criteria. Dr. Visaggi and I will discuss the applicants and rank our short list of applicants down to no more than 20-25 candidates by this weekend. We will email those candidates for availability for Skype interviews with both of us. Those interviews will occur sometime on Monday April 4th, Tuesday 5th, or Wednesday 6th. We will then rank our final 8 and identify a ranked alternate list. By Friday, April 8th we will extend offers to the initial 8 finalists. Those finalists will have until Thursday, April 14 to accept or decline our offer to join the REU. In the event a finalist does not accept our offer to join the REU, we will move to the ranked alternate list.
We’ll be providing additional updates on social media, especially on Facebook, so please check us out on the web and share on social media.
We hope this provides some clarity to the application review process. Again, we thank you for the interest in our program and for taking the time to fill out our application. We wish you well as you finish your quarter/semester.
With our best,
The UCF Community GIS and Citizen Science REU Team
